New website, iPhone app, tours and exhibitions launched at the Ulster Hall
The Literary Belfast iPhone app will take you on a journey through the literary city and Belfast's history, taking you from the splendour of City Hall and the lives commemorated in Writer's Square to the back alleys and quiet suburban streets where our finest writers lived, walked and worked, and continue to live, walk and work.
Since the publication in the 1950s of his internationally recognised and much loved Chronicles of Narnia, CS Lewis is now one of the most widely known authors in the world. But even among his avid readers there are still many who are not aware of his roots in 19th and early 20th century Belfast.
'The city rises and falls like music, like breathing… Belfast is Rome with more hills: it is Atlantis raised from the sea. And from anywhere you stand, from anywhere you look, the streets glitter like jewels, like small strings of stars... However many, whatever size, it is magical.'
